Some of my fondest childhood and even young adult memories are of being at Aunt Ella Mae Krause's home on Tom Green Street in Brenham around lunchtime. She cooked a hot meal everyday that her entire family came home for, except her husband. Uncle Ervin owned a Texaco station so someone would make his plate, cover it with foil and deliver it to him ( I don’t remember “to go” containers being around yet— doesn’t that speak volumes!).
Tuesday thru Friday at The White Horse I try my best to sort of imitate that vibe, which is why the menu changes weekly. Just like Ella Mae, I am flying solo most days on this gig, but I think you will enjoy the vibe too as well as a good home cooked lunch (or dinner as she would have called it).
